Perhaps you want to go to a new and exciting place but you don't have anyone to tag along. There may be times when you have to travel alone in a foreign land. Whether just for fun or on official business, you have to take safety measures. Traveling alone need not be lonely. In more ways than one, it could actually be fun. Even if you are on your own, don't be reluctant to travel. Just make sure that you remember these things:

You should plan ahead Do your research and also read about the place you are heading to. The nearest hotel, restaurant, and such are the things you need to know. Make reservations too, if possible. That way, your travel is on a good start. Did you bring a city map? You better study how to read maps. Needless to say, if it is your first time going to that place, then these can guide you where you are going. It is not a good idea to rely too much on the cab driver.

Take time to learn the language Just study the basics, and the most common things you're likely to ask a local. It would be best if you learn before you arrive.

Hiding your valuable You should always be on your guard. Inviting muggers to come and get you is a bad idea. Wearing too much jewelry outside the streets must be avoided. Inexpensive accessories should be used instead.

You should dress appropriately You should check what the locals wear on a given time of day. You wouldn't want your clothes to give out the fact that you are a tourist. It would be better if you draw lesser attention to yourself.

Go ahead and ask for directions Asking someone for directions would be okay but first, be sure you that are going to choose who to ask. You can ask the receptionist in your hotel or you can ask a waiter in a restaurant. Just be sure you get all information. Don't ask a complete stranger outside as this is not advisable.

Bring some cash Take enough cash with you. Traveler's checks and credit cards are good, and it could be your primary mode of payment, but you might want to keep a few extra dollars in your pocket with local money.

You should enjoy yourself Since you are traveling, why not make the most of it? Try making friends with a local. Talk to somebody over lunch in a caf. By getting their addresses, you can send the friends you made a thank you card. Maybe next time, you'd be their host.

Traveling alone can be your best experience. You will definitely learn more about yourself and what you can do if you travel solo. Try it. You could have lots of fun!
