Those looking for airport parking tips should keep a few basic things in mind. Good tips will go a long ways toward making a trip less stressful and creating a smooth beginning to an individual's travels. It can also save money that can then be spent on other things. For new travelers, things can seem overly complicated, but general common sense should rule the day.

Allowing enough time to actually park the vehicle seems relatively straightforward, but it causes many people problems. Those who will be flying should be sure to allow plenty of time to arrive at the airport and get a space. Arriving late is an automatic pitfall, as people are already flustered before they even being looking for a space.

Buses and shuttles often run fixed routes through lots and stop at particular locations (stations). This is where people need to be in order to catch the transportation and head off to the terminal. For those who are traveling with a person who is disabled or frail, securing a spot near to the shuttle or bus cuts down on walking and generally saves time.

Many people are confused by the different lot options at many of the major airports. Indoor lots, usually located in parking garages, offer protection against rain and snow while the traveler is away. They are also generally more secure from damage by vagrants or criminals. They cost a bit more, however, so those that are looking into such lots should know there is a trade off.

Outdoor lots are usually large in scope and located further out from the terminals than the indoor lots. They cost less, but this is to be expected since they are generally unprotected from rain, snow, and other weather events. Most people still find them viable, however, and it is at these lots the majority of people park their vehicles when traveling.

The reservation of a space is key at many major airports. Doing this as far in advance as possible is the best way to go about it, as the cheapest rates will be available at these times. Those who reserve months in advance can get big discounts that will save quite a bit of money. People who know they will be traveling at a certain date should look into this.

Parking not at the airport but at an off-site area is another way to go. These areas are usually independently owned, and can be as secure as airport lots. They are also frequently cheaper. Individuals who are looking into using such a lot should ask around a bit to see which businesses are reputable and which are not. Friends and family should be able to help.

Airport parking tips can vary in scope, but they are based generally on organization. If travelers are organized and arrive when they are supposed to, and also are aware of where to go and how much they will be spending, they'll have a pretty calm experience.
