Although most visitors to Hawaii go for the beaches, there is plenty other things to see. If what you are looking for is another side of Hawaii, then why not go on a tour of some to the many volcano sites?

There are a lot of things you can do here. Some people make it a day trip. Also, there are guided tours that are available to show your sites of interest. Making the volcanoes the focus of their holiday and find accommodations near by is what others tend to do. Others would prefer to take a ride in a helicopter over the sites for a first rate view of the volcanoes.

You might also want to try to check out a few of the most interesting sites.

Long Mountain or Mauna Loa is considered as the largest volcano is the world. It is four km above sea level. It spans more than half of Hawaii and is still very active. In fact, since 1843, it has erupted thirty three times. Currently being monitored from signs of eruption is Mauna Loa.

You should visit Kilauea if you want to see a volcano in eruption. This volcano is smaller than Mauna Loa but is still very active. In 1983, started in 1983 and hasn't stopped yet Kilauea's current eruption and it hasn't stopped yet.

Hualapai is another volcano to see, although it isn't as active as Kilauea or Mauna Loa. For almost one hundred years, starting in 1701, this volcano erupted six times and twice its lava flowed into the sea below. However, the volcano hasn't really been active recently. There are experts who think that in the next one hundred years, it will do so again.

Make sure that you do your research since volcano sites do require a lot of hiking to get to them. It is advisable that small children, pregnant women, as well as the elderly do not participate. Since the shell of fresh lava is breakable, it can then end up being very dangerous. Before you get to Hawaii and all the way up to the day before you start your hike, keep your self informed of the lava activity. Planning in advance and starting the day early is what experts recommend that you do.

As for the weather conditions, it can change drastically as you climb. For rainy and windy conditions, carry some sunscreen and sunglasses along with the necessary attire. You may need a warm jacket as you higher. Even though they are concession stands along the way, there is a bit of a distance between them, so bring snacks with you.

Try to make time to see these fascinating volcanoes for yourself if you are going to Hawaii and you won't regret it.
