"For The Last Time, We Are Not There Yet!" - Family Road Trip Survival Guide

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, travel is increasing every year and it is predicted that even more people will be on the road this year. Traveling with the family can be a great way to spend quality time together but it can also be stressful. Increase your chances of a fun, stress-free and safe vacation by following these simple tips:

End the ennui with some infantile entertainment. You've heard it all before. And whenever a child asks "are we there yet?", you sometimes wish you'd hear fingers on a chalkboard instead. The good old fashioned car games from our childhood are still alive, thankfully. Some of these games include immortals such as the license plate game, the Punchbuggy game, "I Spy" and magnetic board games like Snakes and Ladders - and if your kids just miss them gadgets, let them bring their PSPs, if only to keep them from asking if you are there yet.

Observe precaution when stopping. Your kids may know better than to talk to strangers, but at the rest stop they just might "socialize" with some familiar beings that you nonetheless wouldn't want your kids mixing with. And these aren't the friends you'd approve of - we're talking germs and bacteria from the rest stops that can easily be taken care of with a little hand sanitizer or venerable old Lysol Disinfectant Spray. Be prepared for those unavoidable bathroom bloopers with some Wet Wipes or paper towels.

Eat the right food. It's your call - you can dine 'n' dash at the most convenient rest stop, along with the average family going on their own road trip. But roadside dining doesn't always offer the healthiest choices. Instead, keep your family's bellies full with snacks that you can eat right in the car, such as trail mix, string cheese, fruit roll-ups, bottles of water, and fruit. These easy, convenient snacks are yummy (for them) and healthy (for you).

Keep everyone happy. Pick a destination that has fun activities for all ages. While it's tempting to head for the place that the kids will love, make sure there's something for mom, dad and grandma to do as well. Of course you can include Disneyland and Disneyworld, but other great places to visit in the United States include Hershey, PA, Williamsburg, VA and Yellowstone National Park.

You can enjoy yourself on a family vacation or spend most of the trip stressed out. So to end this article, we're going to make like Roy Rogers and say happy trails to you and your family - provided you follow the tips we discussed!
