Flyers have been paying more attention lately to the many regional airlines. One very popular airline is Skywest Airlines, which has become a leader among regional carriers in America. In its early years, it only served Utah, where it's still based, but today it connects many different cities in the West and Midwest. Skywest Airlines is owned independently, but the mainstay of its flights is in support of the larger airlines with which it partners. If you want to find out more about what Skywest Airlines has to offer, that will be the focus of this article.

Skywest Airlines was started by Ralph Atkin in 1972 as a very small airline that only flew between Salt Lake City and St. George in Utah. Business travel between these two cities was their market. Increased flights and destinations were made possible by partnering with larger airlines through the years including Air Tran, United, Delta and, most recently, Alaska Airlines, and now over 100 cities in Canada and the United States are serviced by Skywest Airlines. Flights to many cities in the Mid-West, West Coast, and Southwest regions of the United States are run through its partners. From its beginnings forty years ago, Skywest now has almost 1500 departures daily.

AirTran is able to accommodate your flight plans in and throughout the Midwest region of the US as a result of its partnership with Skywest Airlines. As an example, AirTran connects directly to cities such as St. Louis, Des Moines, and Omaha from Milwaukee. Air Tran is a good airline to choose if you're looking for a low cost flight.

As with other regional carriers, space and other limitations may be a problem when you fly with Skywest Airlines. This means that some of its policies are more restrictive than those of its larger partner airlines. Large pet kennels, windsurf equipment, and kayaks cannot be brought on Skywest flights. Also, on SkyWest flights you cannot check live animals as baggage as you can on some larger airlines. Check ahead of time before you fly with this airline if you have any special requirements. In general, when you're traveling on a regional airline, the planes are smaller and there will be more restrictions on what you can bring on them.

The Western side of the United States is covered by the numerous flights offered by Skywest Airlines. Planning trips to anywhere you might imagine is easy through their partners. Short route business or pleasure trips are easily found with Skywest Airlines. Visit their website or that of one of their partners to learn more about Skywest Airlines.
