Outer Banks. Perhaps the most well known of all the beaches in the Carolinas, the Outer Banks offers much history as well as attractive beaches. Go to where the Wright Brothers first took flight in Kill Devil Hills, or to the first European settlement on Roanoke Island.
The Bald Head Island. Feet still there? Well, you better love walking because no cars are allowed on this island. You can use an electric golf cart to get around, however.
Atlantic Beach. Atlantic Beach is part of the Crystal Coast and is found on the eastern side of the Bogue Banks. Historic Fort Macon State Park is a popular nearby attraction.
The Figure Eight Island. Got your riches intact? You're going to need them if you go to this private resort.
Fifth: Oak Island. Oak Island is found in Brunswick County, and is one of the few south-facing beaches in the east coast. You'll enjoy its many golf courses there.
Sixth: Sunset Beach. Sunset Beach, which is just three miles in length, is the southernmost beach of Brunswick Island. The only way to the mainland and back is a 1-lane pontoon bridge. Wow!
The Carolina Beach. You'll find that Carolina Beach between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean, and you can go shopping there, or visit the state aquarium, the Carolina Beach State Park.
Topsail Beach. If you don't like beachfront high-rise developments, then this is the place for you. Pirates actually were present in this area during the 1700s. There hasn't been news that Blackbeard's treasure has ever been found.
