How To Create A Budget For Your Cruise Travel

Only very rich or very poor people could go on cruises in the past. The very rich would enjoy royal treatment on the luxurious upper decks, while the poor could live the illusion of cruise travel, all stuffed like animals in the lower decks. In recent decades cruising has become more and more affordable, and luckily those on almost any budget can take this style of tour today.

If you are on a tight budget, careful planning will ensure that you have a vacation you can afford and enjoy at the same time.

As you evaluate different cruise options, try to stay away from the ones that barely fit your budget. In general spending your vacation with a cruise tour is a good way to conserve your money. Accommodations, meals and most entertainment are already included in the price. However, the price does not include some of the extras, so you need to reserve a little room in your budget for those unexpected expenses.

Remember while your cost includes resort living, and meals, it does not include things like snacks you may want in between meals. Same thing for alcoholic beverages and soft drinks. And, you might be required to pay for excursions as well.

Other fees that you will need to budget for are those that are added by the government from the country you left and those you will visit along the way. These port fees and taxes must be definitely be kept in mind, since they will be added to your totals. Sometimes these fees sneak up in your total as you are finalizing the payment for your trip.

While you may say you always have a couple of extra bucks on hand, these fees are a bit more than that and it's possible that in some cases your port charges, taxes and government fees could be $100 or more a person.

Also, you need to consider how you will get to the embarking port. If you will have to get to a port city, you must take into account your travel expenses to that city. If you decide to fly, air fare and transportation from the airport to the port must be considered. If instead you plan to drive, you still need to keep in mind that you will have to pay for parking for several days.
