Weddings take plenty of planning, and the honeymoon planning might be neglected with so many other people to take care of for the big day. Aside from the preparation, there are parties here and there that are thrown by friends of the lucky couple. The couple will have to attend to the tasks of choosing the entourage, selecting the guests, paying attention to the receptions, etc. This is a colossal undertaking for many people, and the honeymoon planning is only for two.

The first thing the couple should do when preparing for their honeymoon is to agree on the place. This time there will only be the two of them so they don't have to involve other people and they have to do the preparation by themselves. They should take some time off to discuss their honeymoon after they have settled the more urgent matter of the wedding date. In making the decision, they should consider the fact that their honeymoon will start immediately after the ceremony and the reception if there is any. So some may look forward to some idyllic spot where they can just laze around and spend romantic evenings watching the sunset while other may still have the energy to explore the ruins of ancient Greece.

Some people will want to just relax while others may want to use the available free time to see some tourist sights or take a ski trip.

Choosing the place and the type of the honeymoon is just the first step; the couple will have to attend to the preparatory phase of the preparation next. For example, they may know a couple who have honeymooned just where they intend to go themselves and who can give them tips and ideas. Friends and family that have been on a cruise or to Florida recently will provide the best evaluation of those honeymoon destinations. One of the best sources of travel information are travel magazines or the travel sections of newspapers. The couple may do the checking individually or together if they have the time so they can discuss matters right there and then. One of the first things they should do after deciding on a destination is to inquire about reservations.

Travel magazines are especially rich source of information and ideas. These magazines are prepared specifically to anticipate and provide answers for the most frequently asked questions of travelers. Those on a budget might want to start with looking for some bargains in the newspapers. There are always travel and accommodation discounts around and couples usually have plenty of options for the amount of the money allotted for their honeymoon. If you are fortunate not to worry about money, then do everything you have to do to give that fairytale honeymoon experience with your loved one. At the end of the day, it boils down to planning for that big, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
