Ski Vacation Packing

If you will be traveling for a ski vacation, it is often difficult to know what to pack. You may not even have a problem knowing what to pack, but instead have a problem figuring how to get everything that you need from your home to your destination. Your skis can't be stored in suitcases, so this is quite a problem, especially if you are flying.

First, find out what's available at your destination. Is there a rental shop? How much are the rental fees for skis, boots, and poles. If they don't charge that much, and if you are open to using rented equipment, then this is a very good option for you.

If you don't care for rented equipment, there is another option. Inquire if there are any ski shops there. There usually are. Get prices on skis, poles, and boots, and then ask if they buy used equipment. If they don't, ask if there is anyone near by that does purchase used equipment. Contact the person and get an estimate on how much you'll get for barely-used equipment. Figure the difference in the money you will spend on the ski equipment, and the money you will get for the used equipment when you are finished with it. If it isn't much more than what it would cost you to rent the equipment, go for it!

Your bulky ski suits, ski jackets, and sweaters will be hard to pack. After you put these in your suitcase, you won't have much room for your other things. If your vacation will last two weeks, then you'll need more than one suitcase.

There is a way to solve this. Contact your lodge or resort. Tell them that you will send a package that needs to be there when you arrive for your vacation. Ask if they'll hold the package for you. They probably will. So you just have to pack your bulky clothing and other things in a box and ship it to your destination. It might take as little as one day and as much as three days for your package to arrive. You'll pay less than $50 for that, depending on how heavy the package is, but it's still a lot cheaper than paying for excess baggage on a plane.
