Something should be said about producing accommodations for Rio de Janeiro safety issues and how to respond in the streets when you are away from your apartments, hotels or any other rental accommodations. Although Brazilians are great folks and they are generally curious and pleasant to visitors, Rio de Janeiro is a big city of great social poverty. As a result, this comes with attacks, robberies and petty theft. To even more complicate this, the traffic in Rio is different from what many countries are experienced at. Every now and then, individuals run red signals due to the potential for traffic light attacks.

Whilst staying at apartments, hotels or flats in Copacabana or Ipanema, it is best to be aware of your frame of mind on the street. You don't want to looks as if you're a lost visitor. This is generally an invite to people who would rob or con you. I've assembled a small set of safety measures one can make to lower the potential risk of being robbed:

Some recommendations which you will want to contemplate are to not carry your passport. It's not essential should you just plan to travel throughout the city. A replica is good enough. Always use the local currency, the "Real," when making purchases. Don't have a lot of cash with you. Don't wear flashy clothing or jewelry. Carry your electronics in your handbag, out of sight. Don't take your valuable items to the beach and whenever you are at the beach, make plans to go with friends, so there's always somebody to watch your things if you need to get wet. Stay in crowded locations and avoid walking down vacant dark streets.

When you're in the streets of Copacabana or Ipanema, you almost sure to encounter vendors that happen to be selling things. They could possibly be an irritation for you and the smartest thing is for you to steer clear of looking at them or making eye-to-eye contact. If you look at them, they're going to consider this as being an invitation to make contact with you. This also applies to individuals dwelling on the streets. Stay away from staring at people. Sometimes they're simply looking for an excuse to produce problems. Not to mention the belief that there's a solid possibility that they will be drugged and such.

So that's it. When you head out of your hotels, apartments, flats or vacation rentals, what's most crucial is that you take note of what's taking place around you when you are cruising Rio de Janeiro. If you perform this then you're most likely going to have a entertaining and safe family vacation.
