How Are Hotels Rated All Over The Globe?

Individuals that wonder, "How are hotels rated?" should prepare themselves for any number of answers. No matter the land mass on which you stay, the rating system is varied and definitely not yet set in stone. In fact, those who take the time to research the issue will find that there can even be a city to city variation of the set standards that apply to the given rating system.

Both in the United States and in Europe there are several bodies that assign ratings to hotels. In Europe government organization and independent groups work to define hotels by certain classifications. The criteria that is used as a determinant is not consistent even among these. The same is also true in the U. S.

In general consumers expect to get insight into the types of amenities, facilities and services that are provided based upon a five star rating system. Because there is no real standard for each however, there has been evidence of market driven inflation. This has resulted in some hotels, especially new, extravagant locations, touting themselves as six or seven star hotels.

The gist of the rating system however is that the greater the number of stars, the better and more luxurious your stay is supposed to be. It goes without saying that a higher rated hotel will ultimately mean a bigger check. A guest will inevitably pay more to stay in a five star hotel than he or she will to stay in a three or four star hotel.

Hotels that have a greater number of stars are going to have more services available to guest, increased and higher quality amenities as well as superior accommodations and location. Unfortunately there is no real set standard for how ratings are determined which means that every rating is relatively subjective. It can be said however that a five star hotel will have specific features that other will not such as superior quality linens and the best in food, valet and concierge services. There is also likely to be complete exercise facilities and several restaurants onsite in addition to a 24 hour room service availability.

Staying at a four star hotel however, can also be quite a luxurious experience. Here guests are also likely to find that there is both valet and concierge services as well as high quality linens and exercise amenities. The food choices will also be stellar but are not likely to be on the level of that of five-star rated accommodations.
